Elizabeth Masen was married to Edward Masen Sr. and lived in Chicago when the Spanish Influenza struck in 1918. Her husband passed on due to the disease, and she knew that both she and her seventeen-year old son were not far behind. She attempted to nurse her son back to health, but her own strength was draining. When Dr. Carlisle Cullen came to check on her, she knew she was close to her death and used the last of her power to insist that the do all that he could to save Edward Jr.
